Today, around 9.000.000 people live in London, and every year more than nine million people come from countries all over the world to visit the city. A quick and easy way to get to different places is to use an Underground train. The trains which run all day and most of the night are comfortable and safe. You can see much more of London, however, from one of its famous red buses because there are some special ones for visitors that drive you to many of the interesting places in the city on a journey that takes about one and a half hour. London taxis, called black cabs, whose drivers are helpful and with whom you can practice your English while on a ride, may also take you on tours. It’s also possible to go on a boat trip along the River Thames and see lovely places in and out of the city. London has interesting old buildings to visit, many of them are hundreds of years old: The Buckingham Palace – the home of the Queen; the Tower Bridge – opened in 1894, The Houses of the Parliament – the home of the British government and beautiful churches: St. Paul’s Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. London offers beautiful parks and gardens, theatres, museums and art galleries. There are also streets whose famous shops, markets, international restaurants and pubs invite you to get a taste of the city. The typical English food is fish and chips, but there are many, many more things to see and do in London. Come and see!
